Instructor-led Standards Course

This three-hour course is offered free of charge and 0.3 CEUs will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.

This course is based on the newly revised Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards and provides an overview of the standards used in preschool classrooms serving children ages three years old to Kindergarten. Examples of developmentally appropriate instructional strategies for preschool age children are provided throughout the training along with information about purposeful planning, reflective practice and qualities of an effective educator. Either the online or instructor-led course will meet the VPK Instructor and VPK Director Credential training requirements. Registration for this course is available online through the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Child Care Training System at DCF Child Care Training.

This five-hour course is offered for $10 and 0.5 CEUs will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.

Core Competencies Training

Overview of the Florida Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Practitioners Training (Online)

• Provide an overview of the Florida Core Competencies for Early Care and Education Practitioners.

• Create a framework and common language for professional development and serve as a standard for decisions and practices carried out by early learning professionals.

• Include expectations across a continuum of training, education, and experience, ranging from the entry-level practitioner to practitioners with degrees, certifications and extensive experience.

The course is a five-hour course with an embedded assessment. 0.5 CEUs are available once the embedded assessment is successfully completed.

The cost is $10 and participants register through the Florida Early Care and Education Professional Development Registry, DCF Child Care Training.

These lesson plans, based on the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards: 4 Years Old to Kindergarten (2017), are designed to help develop the skills that 4-year-old children should know and be able to do by the end of their prekindergarten year. There are targeted standards for 4-year-old children included in each lesson plan.
